About Us


L. Jay and Marjorie Rossi created the Rossi Family Foundation in 1989 with hopes of demonstrating good and positive differences in our society. Jay and Marj’s five children immediately joined the Board of Directors.

In the beginning, the Foundation focused on providing seed money to new nonprofits, a purpose that is reflected in the dandelion image in our logo. Over the years, the Foundation expanded its scope of giving to include operating support for established nonprofits, a matching gift program to amplify Directors’ personal giving, and major gifts to large capital projects.


Rossi Family Foundation assets are irrevocably dedicated to

community needs in the areas of:


  • Arts/culture
  • Education
  • Health care
  • Social services, and
  • Environmental conservation.


Since its founding, the Rossi Family Foundation has more than doubled its assets and given away more than $2.5 million to nonprofit organizations in each of the Directors’ communities. Applications must be invited by and are subject to the discretion of Directors in the following geographical areas:


  • California: San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Monterey, and Sacramento
  • Kentucky:  Fayette County, and
  • North Carolina: Wake County.
